Instagram’s Weekend Hashtag Project

What is Instagram’s Weekend Hashtag Project?

Everyone is trying to grow their followers on Instagram from brands to normal folks like me and you. While there are many inauthentic ways to do this (through apps and follow hashtags), one very rewarding way is to engage directly within the Instagram community through Instagram’s Weekend Hashtag Project.

Weekend Hashtag Project is a series featuring designated themes and hashtags. For a chance to be featured, follow @instagram and look for a post every week announcing the latest project.

The new hashtag for the week is announced on the Instagram account each Friday (for the most part) and the project always starts with #WHP followed by the challenge name. You can participate all weekend by posting new photos in the spirit of the theme and using the hashtag for that week. Instagram will choose a number of their favorites to showcase on their blog and @instagram.

I’ve decided to participate every weekend as well. You can follow me at @jencey and @socialyumyum.

Here are some examples from the past two weeks.

Weekend Hashtag Project: #WHPhiddenbeauty

“#WHPhiddenbeauty asked community members to look for moments of beauty in unexpected places. The project took inspiration from guest curator Isabel Martinez (@isabelitavirtual), a creative director and photographer based in New York. Each week, we feature some of our favorite submissions from the project, but be sure to check out the rest here.”

“#WHPfamilytree asked community members to make photos and videos celebrating their family and heritage. Each week, we feature some of our favorite submissions from the project, but be sure to check out the rest here.”
